Judging by the response of the crowd at the Singapore Blog Awards 2013 held at Shanghai Dolly, it was clear that blogging was anything but dying/dead!
Well, perhaps these kids can. Especially on a good day?
Thanks to an invitation from Omy.sg, I had the chance to attend the grand finals of the RHB-The Straits Times National Spelling Championship 2013. Running for its second year, this competition for kids aims to raise their appreciation of spelling in language and literacy in a fun and competitive manner. Targeting students in Singapore, it challenges them to out-spell each other through the awareness of phonemes and syllabication while enriching their vocabulary through the study of prefixes, suffixes and root words.

Organised by Omy.sg, SPH’s leading bilingual news and entertainment portal, the Singapore Blog Awards recognises “new-age wordsmiths” with the passion, determination, and energy to “create and maintain informative and innovative blogs”.
It was an afternoon to remember at Movida of St James Powerhouse when virtual virtuosos became real rock-stars. More than 100 bloggers, models, singers, friends, fans and followers of social media stardom congregated for Omy.sg’s Singapore Blog Awards 2010. As one of the judges for the awards, I had the privilege of evaluating the shortlisted finalists for two of the categories, and was blown over by the quality of the entries.
