Billed as a “multi-million dollar fantasy musical”, LightSeeker is Resorts World Sentosa’s third original production and a first time collaboration with famed local songwriter Dick Lee. Produced by Andrea Teo (formerly of Under One Roof and Phua Chu Kang fame), the 90-minute musical boasts of spectacular visuals, acrobatic action sequences, stunning sets, and eye catching theatrical effects.
I’ve loved Sesame Street ever since I was a kid. Watching it week after week on Saturday mornings, I was transfixed by its lovable muppets, while learning a thing or two. The award winning children’s television show has since spun off numerous franchised products featuring characters like Cookie Monster, Oscar, Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Grover and Elmo.
Thanks to a partnership between Resorts World Sentosa and Sesame Street, you can now experience these charming muppets “in the flesh” with a whimsical theme park ride. Launched by Universal Studios Singapore’s Vice President of Park Operations John Hallenbeck, Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase is the newest attraction in Universal Studios Singapore.
Thanks to Resorts World Sentosa, I was recently given a pair of tickets to their ongoing “rock circus” performance Voyage de la Vie as part of their Date Night, as well as a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine. As my wife has seen the show previously, I decided to bring my boy Ethan along.
Helmed by former MediaCorp Executive Producer Andrea Teo, who is now the Vice-President of Entertainment at Resorts Wrold Sentosa, Voyage de la Vie features the talents of creative producer Mark Fisher (chief designer of 2008 Beijing Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies), Michael LaFleur – a previous imagineer with the Walt Disney Company, Philip Wm McKinley of “Ringling Bros and Barun and Bailey’s The Greatest Show on Earth” fame, set designer Ray Winkler (who worked on tours for U2, Generis and the Rolling Stones), and composer and former Singapore Idol runner-up Jonathan Lim.
Lovers of the hugely popular Transformers franchise have more reasons to smile this March school holidays with the launch of the first Transformers Cybertron Con in Southeast Asia. The event kicked off with speeches by dignitaries from Hasbro (Singapore) and Resorts World Sentosa, followed by a precision drill display by some talented secondary school boys.
On a recent study trip to Universal Studios Singapore (USS) at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), I had the privilege of learning how the theme park – arguably the most popular in Southeast Asia – creates, develops and manages memorable and delightful guest encounters. While these strategies do not cover all aspects of a world class theme park’s operation, they do form an important component of their visitor experiences. These help to trigger positive word of mouth and generate repeat visits.
Rumoured to cost more than S$100 million and to take more than four years to plan and build, Transformers The Ride is probably one of the world’s most expensive theme park attraction. It is also the world’s first theme park based on the popular robot franchise from Hasbro, with the next opening in Universal Studios Hollywood in 2012.
Southeast Asia’s exciting maritime past comes alive this 15 October with the opening of Singapore’s first maritime museum. Known as the Maritime Experiential Museum & Acquarium (MEMA), the attraction at Resorts World Sentosa features more than 400 rare objects including the Jewel of Muscat (a life-sized reproduction of a 9th century Arab dhow), and treasures from the Belitung Shipwreck. Designed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates, an international museum design firm, the museum depicts the romance of a bygone era with tales of seafarers braving the stormy seas along the Maritime Silk Route.
Set in the 15th century, the museum’s centrepiece revolves around the story of legendary Admiral Zheng He who launched many maritime voyages from China to the Western oceans with a fleet of 300 shops. Through highly interactive features and realistic replicas, the stories of exotic lands and seas from the past comes alive.
Ethan’s certainly enjoyed his first visit to Universal Studios Singapore
Lights… Cameras… and so much action! That sums up the grand opening of Universal Studios Singapore this morning.
After allowing members of the public to visit parts of the park in stages, Universal Studios Singapore finally had its grand opening party. Thanks to the kind folks of Resorts World Sentosa, I was able to bring Ethan along to soak in the hot and festive fun. Participating in the extravaganza were big names like American Idol and pop personality Paula Abdul, Chinese martial arts superstar Jet Li, screen goddess Maggie Cheung, doe-eyed Chinese actress Vicki Zhao (of “Huang Zhu Ge Ge fame”) and Kimberly Caldwell, a finalist from American Idol.
Suspended and screaming riders of the Battlestar Galactica
At the kind invitation of the PR folks from Resorts World Sentosa, a couple of blogger friends and I had the chance to be the first to try out the newly relaunched Battlestar Galactica roller coaster ride. It was certainly one of the most adrenaline pumping, nerve wrecking, and scream-tastic time of my life!
