Garrulous Gourmet Globetrotting with Ian Wright

At the kind invitation of Belinda Ang of MS&L, I had the privilege of attending a Discovery Travel & Living event (co-sponsored by Starhub) featuring the hilarious Ian Wright. For those of you who don’t know Ian, he is well known for being one of the most travelled man in the world, exploring far flung places like Siberia, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and Okinawa of Japan. Here’s a preview of his misadventures in freezing cold Siberia:

A Fabulous Night Out @ Bras Basah and Bugis

At the kind invitation of Alvinology from Omy.sg, I was invited for a Trishaw Night Tour as part of the Night Out at Bras Basah, Bugis Precinct activity organised by the National Museum of Singapore. Part of the overall effort to inject more buzz and excitement into the Civic District, the activity showed us how much more vibrant and fascinating Singapore’s cultural hotspots can be after dark.

Helmed by the DJs Jianwen and Kemin from the Radio Station 100.3 FM, the three-wheeled tour was an interesting blend of whimsical fun and wonder through the brightly lit nightscape of Singapore’s cultural hub. Commencing at the Bugis Trishaw Park (between Albert Centre Hawker Centre and Fu Lu Shou Building on Queen Street), it ended at the Settler’s Cafe at SMU where food, drink and friendly conversation capped off the night on a high.

Apparently, for one day only, you can also visit 2 exhibitions at the special exhibition gallery at the National Museum of Singapore with that same ticket. You can catch Brad Pitt and other stars at the Voom Portraits show by Robert Wilson, as well as another photography special by Chang Chien Chi called “Doubleness”.

What Do Museums and Zouk Have in Common?

Are museums becoming hip and happening? You bet, if these photos of the inaugural Night Festival (organised by the National Museum of Singapore) are anything to shout about.

From what I hear, the opening weekend featuring the world famous Studio Festi drew more than 20,000 visitors! Visitors were awed by the aerial acrobatic aesthetic displays, which defied gravity and were almost magical. Opening to rave reviews, the festival showed that Singaporeans are essentially creatures of the night (probably because of our blazing tropical Sun).

Last Friday night, I popped over to check out the action at about 11.30 pm. Being a fan of Singapore’s number one club Zouk, I also wanted to see how its Beatnik Picnic fared.
