A Funky Monkey and Busy Bee

December 19, 2007 Blog 2 comments

As part of his graduation ceremony, Ethan recently performed two items at his childcare centre Learning by the Park. Ethan is the boy in the green T-shirt with a shark on it wearing long red pants.

The first above is a segment from the song “Funky Monkey”.

The second segment above is one where the kids pretend to be bees.

While his performance isn’t quite Asian Idol material, well at least he is trying his best. And that’s what matters most I guess.

Ethan Turns Four!

As Ethan celebrates his fourth birthday this coming Tuesday (27 November), we had a great week of multiple celebrations. This actually felt uncannily like his third birthday, if you can recall, with pretty much the same players (close friends and relatives). Looking at the photos just makes you wish you were a kid all over again doesn’t it?

First was a celebration with his good friend Dyann, who turned five on 19 November at her place.

Just Play

Ethan recently had fun at our neighbourhood playground with two older kids Shaun and Amu who are brothers. Watching them leaping and laughing, slipping and sliding, and generally having a great time was pretty therapeutic for me too. If only adults like us can learn how to completely let go and have fun, I believe that the world will be a better place.

Here’s a video of him with Shaun and Amu chasing each other around the playground.

Female fly: “Hey there is this kid pointing at us at the playground. Errr…. don’t you think we should be more discreet?”

Male fly: “Who cares? I don’t think they are old enough to understand!”

Female fly: “Oh man…. the kid’s daddy is taking photos of us now! Aarrgh… we will be all over the National Enquirer, The Sun and other gossip pages in a jiffy!”

The Secret Chemistry between Kids and Animals

Two weeks ago, we visited our favourite outdoor haunt which is the Botanic Gardens. While I went jogging around the tranquil park, my wife and son met this friendly couple who allowed Ethan to walk and play with their two toy dogs “Sugar” and “Coffee”. From the word “Go”, it was obvious that kids and dogs have a natural bond with each other as you can see from the photograph above.

Cats are no exception too. Ethan has started to grow fond of a neighbourhood cat who lives downstairs near the lift landing area. He even gave her a name – “Patty” – and they seem to have a bond with each other from day one. Just today, he asked me to take a photograph of the cat too.

I only hope that he doesn’t start clamouring for a pet of his own soon!

Leapin’ Lions and Rollin’ Dragons

February 21, 2007 6 comments

As some of you would know, my 3.25 year old son Ethan simply LOVES lion dance performances. He will go into a frenzy, eyes glazed and jaw agape, when he hears the heart pounding bellows of the Chinese drums coupled with the clashing cymbals. Long time readers would probably have seen him doing his own lion dancing performance before.

This CNY, Ethan was really lucky. He managed to catch not just two lion dancing but an exciting dragon dance at his great grandmother’s place at McNair Road. How did it go? Well first, a few words of greetings from our sponsor.

Happy Year of the Ham

Ethan wishes you “Gong Xi Fa Cai, Xin Nian Kuai Le!”

Here’s wishing all my friends, family members and readers a very “pork”-sperous Chinese New Year full of “ham”-some harvests, sausage days, pigging out, fat returns, and endless opportunities to go the whole hog!

In the wise words of the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan:

“I am very proud to be called a pig. It stands for pride, integrity and guts.” Hmmm….reminds me of ter huang kiam chye!

VivoCity Adventures

We recently went to VivoCity together with my parents, my niece Mandy and nephew Isaac.

While we generally enjoyed ourselves, the entire experience would have been a lot better if certain attention to customer details were made. For a start, the air-conditioning was butt freezingly cold, and exiting from the carpark took eons.

Ethan Turns Three!

Ethan Birthday Cake at Suki Sushi
Ethan with Mummy, Papa and the castle cake (cake three) at Suki Sushi

Ethan turned three on 27 Nov this year. While most pre-schoolers’ idea of a birthday party is one celebrated in their school, Ethan wanted his birthday party to be in a restaurant with a big cake.

Last week he started asking for a pink castle cake. His school mate Rachel had one, he said. That got us busy. We surfed the web and located Yiling Confectionery, the shop featured in the Straits Times recently for their innovative cake designs.
