Guardians of museum collections, curators acquire artefacts and artworks, conduct research, publish articles or books, and mount exhibitions.
I’ve loved Sesame Street ever since I was a kid. Watching it week after week on Saturday mornings, I was transfixed by its lovable muppets, while learning a thing or two. The award winning children’s television show has since spun off numerous franchised products featuring characters like Cookie Monster, Oscar, Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Grover and Elmo.
Thanks to a partnership between Resorts World Sentosa and Sesame Street, you can now experience these charming muppets “in the flesh” with a whimsical theme park ride. Launched by Universal Studios Singapore’s Vice President of Park Operations John Hallenbeck, Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase is the newest attraction in Universal Studios Singapore.
Have you wondered what ingredients go into that perfect brew? Or how cold your Tiger beer should be served?
Well, you can join the Tiger Brewery Tour for an intoxicating insight! Thanks to Asia Pacific Breweries (APB), my colleagues and I from the Association of Singapore Attractions had a chance to learn how the world famous Tiger beer is being made on a daily basis. Stimulating the five senses – sight, sound, scent, taste and touch – the tour allowed one to experience the Tiger brand in a holistic fashion.
Interactive and educational gaming at the Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium
I’ve just read very quickly the Center for the Future of Museums (an arm of the American Association of Museums) well written report called TrendsWatch 2012 which outlined key trends in the development of museums. With lots of links to examples and highlights of cutting edge ideas in American museums, the report provides lots of food for thought for museum and attraction professionals.
Let me highlight the seven trends that they have identified and provide a local context to them.

What is the magic behind creating truly memorable and delightful guest experiences at visitor attractions?
According to renowned experience designer Bob Rogers, the secret lies in finding the right story, shaping it for the right audience, and ensuring that it is an original tale.
There is nothing quite like a trip to Bangkok to revive, refresh and rejuvenate one’s jaded senses. From ultra-modern shopping malls, colourful street markets, health giving spas, larger-than-life shows to fabulous culinary delights, one is never spoilt for choice. Indulgence became our middle names as we soaked in the Sun – and rain – splashed pleasures of Asia’s “Sin City” during a short 3 Day 2 Night trip there.
What can one do in this city that never sleeps? Plenty of course! Let me count the ways…
Bordering Mexico, San Diego is one of the southernmost cities in California and the second largest in the State. On what must be one of the wettest day in Southern California – where it purportedly “never rains” according to Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood – we went on a trip to the world famous San Diego SeaWorld.
Occupying a sprawling 200 acres, the marine-based attraction supposedly sets the standard for similar aquatic destinations around the world like Hong Kong’s Ocean Park and our own Underwater World. It features many daily shows, thrilling rides and marine animal encounters. To date, most than 80 million have visited this world class attraction.
How was our experience there? Well, the shows were pretty nifty but we wondered where the crowds were since the place was quite desolate.
Nestled amidst the balmy seaside town of Pasir Ris, Downtown East has positioned itself as a playground for the average Joe, providing entertainment in all its forms to unionists, members of the public, and their families. The transformation of what used to be NTUC Pasir Ris Resort into this one-stop mecca of mass entertainment was pretty extraordinary, considering how sleepy and rustic it used to be. Many people now know that you can get a lot more than just chalets at this Eastern destination.
My family and I decided to check out Downtown East yesterday, after being away from it for a few years. Here’s our visual journey.
With a huge building looming large, the external facade of Downtown East has transformed dramatically from holiday resort to shopping mall.
Every once in a while, you need to take a break from the frenzied pace of urban life and to slow down a little. A great place for this is the Lower Peirce Reservoir.
One of the oldest reservoirs in Singapore, the Lower Peirce Reservoir is about six hectares in size, and is the home to many primary and secondary rainforest species. Originally known as the Kallang River Reservoir, the water catchment area was first started in 1901, which makes it more than a century old. The scenic body of water was named in honour of Robert Peirce, who was one of Singapore’s municipal engineers.
