I just wanted to add that Kevin contacted me independently and we discussed what he meant by "clued in." I now understand the context of his comment.
Nice roundup Walter! And I'm not that smart, just networked. :)

Agreed, Museums and Libraries are perhaps physical versions of aggregators we see online. It's a new lease of life they can now enjoy, if curators learn to take advantage of how users access as well as produce (share) relevant information.

People like you and Ivan (RamblingLibrarian) are really in the position to clue in these establishments.

I recently took one perspective of the Obama campaign of remixability as a motivator for citizen participation. If the media produced around such campaigns are designed in such a way that it invites interpretations, there's a higher likelihood that users will take it, change it and own it.

See if I make it clearer in my presentation:
http://www.slideshare.net/brainopera/the-obama-way-using-online-social-networks-to-promote-your-cause-empower-supporters-and-raise-funds

As Kevin said, this is a nice introduction to social media in museums. You mentioned the Museums and the Web conference series and I would encourage anyone who's interested to explore the rich collection of papers and associated information from past conferences at http://archimuse.com/conferences/mw.html

The Museum Computer Network also should be mentioned as a resource for those in our field whose duties involve managing or incorporating technology.

The last thing I'll mention is Nina Simon's award-winning blog Museum 2.0. It certainly warrants subscription.

From these, as well as many of the resources mentioned in your original post, one can see that an international collection of museum and heritage professionals have been tackling for some years the issues that surround social media and new means of content creation and distribution. I respectfully would inform Kevin that while we welcome voices from any sector to join the conversation, we aren't in need of anyone to clue us in.

Thanks for your thoughtful post!
